April 29th, 2009 -Congresswoman Virginia Foxx, 5th District of North Carolina, in speaking against the "Matthew Shepard Hates Crime Bill" at our nation's House of Representatives stated the following:

'...but we know, uh that that young man was killed in the uh commitment of a robbery. It wasn't because he was gay, the bill was named for him, the hates crime bill was named for him, but its its really a hoax that that continues to be used as an excuse for passing these bills.'

So let it be resolved that we, the undersigned, want to ensure Congresswoman Foxx receives this, our resolution and message:

With the deepest respect & regret to the family of Matthew Shepard, we state the following in hope that hate will be stopped and not excused:

The true facts behind the HATE CRIME against Matthew Shepard-

One of Matthew Shepard's killers admitted under oath that he knew Matthew was gay, that they lured him from the bar by pretending to be gay themselves. Then they robbed him, pistol whipped him, fractured his skull, tortured him with a sharp implement, and tied him to a fence post in rural Wyoming -not to be found for over 18 hours.

There is no excuse for your remarks, Congressman Foxx! You are at best callous, insensitive, criminally misinformed, at worst a bald-face liar. If there is a spark of humanity left within you, you'd do well by retracting your stupid and hurtful words immediately or you should resign your seat in the House.

You are not worthy to represent this country, any of its parties, nor any of its peoples. YOU ARE OUR SHAME and as you stood saying these words, Matthew Shepard's mother sat in the House gallery listening .
