Protest Gloria Estefan's New CD, 90 Millas (90 Miles-English).

This is a petition to protest Gloria Estefan's new CD, 90 Millas.

We are concerned with the recent news that Gloria Estefan has asked Carlos Santana and Willie Colon to collaborate with her on her album, 90 Millas.

The reasoning behind this suggestion relates to a couple of issues:

1. At the 2005 Oscars, Carlos Santana walked down the red carpet sporting a trendy black che guevara t-shirt - http://u.univision.com/contentroot/locales/art/images/12mia/WLTV/2005/03/28_santana_che_3.jpg. At one point he opened his jacket so photographers can get a good picture of the murderer's face on his shirt. As of February 2006, Santana was not apologetic about wearing the che t-shirt. He was confronted by a great Cuban blogger about the incident and these were Santana's exact words, "Ché is dead for you but not for me, he's alive in our hearts.” - http://www.trenblindado.com/tshirtdiaries.html

2. Willie Colon bashed and trashed the Estefan's in this article - http://www.analitica.com/va/entretenimiento/quepasa/1459882.asp. Also, he humiliated our queen, Celia Cruz in Puerto Rico - http://mariaargeliavizcaino.com/e-celiacruz.html.

We feel betrayed and deeply offended by Gloria Estefan's choice to have Carlos Santana and Willie Colon on her album. The Estefans have done a number of good things in the name of the Cuban cause throughout the their career. This is one of the reasons we feel so betrayed by them. In no way are we implying that they are communist. They only thing they are guilty of is committing this HUGE mistake against their own people. They should have known better.

Gloria Estefan is aware of the atrocities che guevara committed in the first 4-5 years of the Cuban revolution. che guevara is one of the main reasons why my family and her family could not continue their lives in their homeland. She has chosen to ignore the fact that Carlos Santana wore the t-shirt for the world to see. How can the Estefans agree to collaborate with a guy who wears a t-shirt of a guy who killed hundreds of innocent Cubans and with a guy who bashes them and humiliates our Cuban queen, Celia Cruz?

The statement issued by the Estefans is weak and only serves as a cover-up for Carlos Santana's actions. The statement is what you call "Damage Control". Where are the words "regret" and "sorry" in Carlo's Santana "apology" issued in 2005? If someone was really sorry one of those two words would have been used and a statement directly from him is what the press should have received. Instead we a get a statement generated by his PR rep. http://www.babalublog.com/archives/004903.html To date, Santana has not denounced che guevara.

We urge Gloria Estefan to take this petition seriously and not to forget in the future that collaborating with someone who likes to wear che t-shirts is not worth more than standing by your fellow Cubans. We want an apology from the Estefans
