We, the citizens of Sacramento, CA, request that Sacramento Mayor Heather Fargo be investigated for alleged misappropriation of public funds. Between October 2005 and present, the Sacramento Bee newspaper reports (http://www.sacbee.com/101/story/734633.html) Mayor Fargo spent $44,000 in taxpayer funds to support 25 trips around the world for herself and her assistant. It has also been reported that at least some of these trips were taken for the express purpose of leisure and sightseeing.
In the aforementioned Sac Bee article, Graham Brownstein, executive director of the Environmental Council of Sacramento, said disillusionment among local environmentalists grew after the mayor's recent 2008 State of the Downtown address on greening the central city. In her comments, Fargo advised citizens to lower their carbon emissions by walking more and getting rid of incandescent light bulbs.
"She seemed so completely detached about the reality of the scope of challenges we face with global warming, that it was almost beyond comprehension," Brownstein said. "Is that all she learned at those conferences? What else is there other than light bulbs?"
We request that ample law enforcement resources are assigned to this case to investigate these allegations immediately upon receipt of this petition.
