Seat Michigan and Florida Fairly |
To: Democratic National Committee et. al.WHEREAS, Prior to the start of the 2008 primary election the Democratic National Committee ruled that Florida and Michigan delegates would not be counted due to violating party rules; and
WHEREAS, All Democratic primary candidates including Senator Clinton and Senator Obama supported the DNC ruling in advance of the election and agreed that delegates from those states would not count; and
WHEREAS, The voters of Florida and Michigan did not have an opportunity to get to know the candidates through a democratic campaign process before voting; and
WHEREAS, Many voters in Florida and Michigan did not vote because they were told by the DNC and Senators Clinton and Obama that their vote would not count; and
WHEREAS, The voters of Michigan did not have an opportunity to vote for Senator Obama due to his name not being on the ballot; and
WHEREAS, The States of Florida and Michigan should be recognized and seated at the Democratic National Convention in order to strengthen our democracy and build party unity;
NOW THEREFORE, We the people of the United States of America do petition the Democratic National Committee, The Florida Democratic Party, The Michigan Democratic Party, Senator Hillary Clinton, Senator Barrack Obama, and all other surrogates, superdelegates, stakeholders and influencers in the Democratic Party to seat all Florida and Michigan delegates and assign them to Senator Clinton and Senator Obama in the same proportion as the total elected pledged delegates in aggregate nationwide for each candidate as chosen by the American people from states that participated in the primary elections in accordance with the rules of the Democratic National Committee.
In other words, if Senator Clinton wins 51% of the elected pledged delegates nationwide, and Senator Obama wins 49% of the elected pledged delegates nationwide, then the Florida and Michigan delegates would be assigned as 51% for Senator Clinton and 49% for Senator Obama.
If Senator Obama wins 51% of the elected pledged delegates nationwide, and Senator Clinton wins 49% of the elected pledged delegates nationwide, then the Florida and Michigan delegates would be assigned as 51% for Senator Obama and 49% for Senator Clinton.
This resolution would allow all Florida and Michigan delegates to be seated at the Democratic National Convention without changing the outcome of the national Democratic primary election as determined by the voters in states that followed the election rules of the DNC.
We further petition that the Florida and Michigan delegates be assigned to each of the two remaining Democratic candidates before 11:59:59 PM Eastern Time on June 5, 2008.
Sincerely,
