Defeat world diseases the way you fight wars

Based on the following facts...
When we wanted the atomic bomb, cost was no object. We created a town, rounded up the top brains in the world, handed them a blank cheque and said, "do it!". People around the world are infected with or die from diseases such as Ebola, Hepatitis, Cancer and AIDS. Why can't we apply the same attitude towards saving people that we did in destroying them?
Two countries, China and Great Britain, have spent in excess of $60 billion dollars for a total of 4-6 weeks of sporting events, the Olympic summer games.. Why can't the world, collectively, come up with $80 billion dollars in a pool, divide it into four pools of $20 billion each, round up the top ten world experts in each field and say, "do it!".
Get the top people in vaccine, DNA, communicable diseases and gene splicing put them together with the funding and within a few years we would have a big part of these diseases beat. Its time to apply this type of team effort to saving and curing people rather than destroying them or hosting short term sporting extravaganzas.
We the undersigned call on all the world's leaders, Prime Ministers, Kings and Presidents to unite the countries of the world create the fund and finance this research.
