Petition for an Emergency United Nations action for the immediate implementation of the Security Council resolution 1559 calling upon the withdrawal of the Syrian army and intelligence from Lebanon and a United Nations led task force to investigate the brutal assassination of our late Premier Mr. Rafik Hariri and his comrades.
We, the undersigned,
Deploring the current illegal, brutal and cruel presence, political intimidation and the series of political assassinations of the free voices by the Syrian army and their intelligence forces as an act of aggression in violation of the United Nations Charter and international law.
Concerned about the threats and coercive efforts by the Syrian government to influence previous elections and the upcoming national elections to ensure a Parliament that doesn't represent the Lebanese people's ambitions and aspirations.
Deeply troubled by the violations of human rights exercised systematically by the Syrian intelligence and sometimes by the Lebanese intelligence agencies under the direct support and supervision of the Syrian authorities against political dissidents.
We demand:
1- The immediate resignation of the current Lebanese government.
2- The creation of a neutral government that oversees the immediate withdrawal of all foreign forces from the Lebanese soil.
3- The creation of an international task force to investigate the recent systematic assassination and assassination attempts against the political dissidents.
This petition will be submitted to the UN representatives during a peaceful rally to be held outside the UN headquarters in New York City on Saturday the 26th of March 2005.
