Re: Clay Tennis Court Approval
Agenda Item #16. 06314 Award Bid-CP-06-13 Design/Build for Tennis Center to Welch Tennis Courts, Inc. in the amount of $2,253,946.70

We the undersigned respectfully request that the City Council revisit and reverse its decision to fund the Tennis Court Development approved the first week of August 2006.

We believe that this approval is not in the best interest of the majority of the residents of Palm Coast. This City has far more important priorities to spend $2.2 million of our taxpayer dollars on for only the first phase of this project, rather than luxury clay tennis courts that will benefit only a few of the residents.

We feel that the monies appropriated, which are slated to come from the Park Impact Fee Fund, should be used for recreational facilities that would be of use to all of the residents of the city rather than just a few tennis players. Parks like the one recently opened in Seminole Woods, with basketball courts, walking trails, playground equipment, and etc. would be a much better use of these funds and would benefit more of the residents, across many demographic age groups, then clay tennis courts.

Further, we feel that the City needs to concentrate its efforts on correcting its infrastructure needs rather than things that are nice but currently should be low on its priority list. While it has been said that the City has swale maintenance, street lighting, road and traffic improvements budgeted in its five-year plan, we feel these issues should be accelerated for more rapid completion.

By signing and submitting this proposal we are communicating our profound disagreement with this approval and respectfully request that it be withdrawn.

Sincerely,

The Undersigned
