To:  The International Community

As the New Year's bell rings of 2009, we are seeing over 150 deaths in Gaza everyday in the last two days caused by the Israeli attacks; we are seeing bombings in Baghdad and other parts of Iraq on a daily bases; we are seeing two nuclear powers - India and Pakistan - on the brink of a war; and we continue to see innocent deaths in the African continent: Ugandan rebels' massacre of civilians in Eastern Congo, conflicts in Somalia, the coup in Guinea, and child soldiers still dying in Chad, etc. etc.

And we say: No more.

Please, in the spirit of a festival that marks a new beginning, stop the violence, and give peace a chance.

To the government of these countries, please stop the war.

To the international community, please take a consistent stance and speak up for peace.

To everyone, yes, everyone, including you, if you can write to your representative, do it; if you can give your politician a call, do it; if you can send this message to 3 friends on your email, do it; if you have friends in a foreign country, send them a New Year's wish because we are all connected.

If human beings really progresses instead of regresses, then we can stop the violence for a new 2009 just as Britain, Germany, France and Belgium ceased fire for Christmas in 1914.

All we are asking is: Give peace a chance.
