Inclusion of Green Party in TN Debates |
To: Debate SponsorsWhereas, access to full and complete information is a necessary condition for a successful democracy;
Whereas, there are currently 7 candidates for Senate on the ballot in Tennessee but only 2 of them have been invited to participate in televised debates;
Whereas, there are currently 8 candidates for Governor on the ballot in Tennessee but only 2 of them have been invited to participate in televised debates;
Whereas, the logistics of facilitating a debate between more than two candidates at once has been proven again and again in primary elections and non-partisan elections in the United States, as well as in multi-party democracies throughout the industrialized world;
Whereas, the Green Party represents a viable alternative party in the United States, with over 380 candidates in 38 states and the District of Columbia in 2006, including 14 Senatorial candidates, and 223 office-holders in 28 states and the District of Columbia as of September 2006;
Therefore, we the undersigned respectfully request that Christopher Lugo, the Green Party nominee for Senator from Tennessee, be included in any senatorial debates broadcast to the public on the public airwaves in Tennessee, and that Howard Switzer, the Green Party nominee for Governor of Tennessee, be included in any gubernatorial debates broadcast to the public on the public airwaves in Tennessee.Sincerely,
