Objection to Planning Application 2007/0172 - Land at Brandy Cove Road

We object to Planning Application 2007/0172. Planning Application 2006/1031 that was made last year for a housing development on the same piece of land was REFUSED, on the six grounds summarized below, by a vote of 15 to 0 when reviewed by the Planning Committee, who took into account petitions with 423 signatures and 451 individual letters of objection when making their decision on 4th July 2006. The only change since that refusal is that the land has recently been properly fenced and is now occupied by grazing ponies.

GROUNDS FOR REFUSAL
1) Proposal constitutes an unjustified form of new development on the edge of the Gower fringe contrary to West Glamorgan Structure Plan Review No 2 and Swansea Local Plan Review No 1.
2) Approval would set an undesirable precedent leading to destruction of the character of the rural landscape.
3) Proposal would fail to conserve the best agricultural land contrary to Swansea Local Plan Review No 1.
4) Proximity of the proposed development to sewage treatment works is contrary to Swansea Local Plan Review No 1.
5) The plan failed to demonstrate no unacceptable impact to highway safety contrary to Swansea Local Plan Review No 1.
6) The plan failed to demonstrate no adverse affect to protected species.

We feel very strongly that the amenity afforded to residents, local visitors and tourists by green spaces, such as the proposed site, is too important to the village of Bishopston, and to the natural environment of the Gower Peninsula as a whole, to justify this kind of development.
