2008 Belgium Grand Prix - The Race Stewards acted fairly according to the FIA rules |
To: FIA (Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile)
We the undersigned understand the difficulty of the situation from the drivers point of view given the situation, however believe that there should not be special circumstances given for an individual that displayed a clear breach in FIA rules. It is clear that the accused gained an advantage by cutting the chicane whilst challenging his competitor. It was the accused choice to cut the chicane, had he slowed down to stay on track the accused would not have been able to challenge for position immediately after. Had the accused have slowed for the corner there would have been a much larger gap between the drivers, and certainly under the weather conditions there would have been a larger than 6.7kmph gap between the drivers. Thus having gained a clear advantage from choice not to stay on track, no extra consideration should be given for a clear breach in rules.
Sincerely,
