2008 Grand Prix of Belgium - The stewards acted appropriately |
To: The Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA)We the undersigned believe that the stewards of the 2008 running of the Grand Prix of Belgium acted appropriately with their decision to penalize Lewis Hamilton 25 seconds for cutting a chicane and gaining an advantage on Kimi Raikkonen. While Mr Hamilton did relinquish the place he gained he did not fully relinquish the advantage he gained. Had Mr Hamilton remained on the track and followed Mr Raikkonen through the chicane he would not have been in as good a position to overtake Mr Raikkonen as he was following his off-track maneuver. We do not believe that Mr Hamilton acted maliciously or with intent to gain an unfair advantage but that he did not fully relinquish that advantage.
Sincerely,
