Reject Chicago and Tokyo for 2016 Olympic Games due to mandatory fingerprinting of visitors

WHEREAS, the Olympic Charter sets forth that the goal of Olympism is to "place sport at the service of the harmonious development of man, with a view to promoting a peaceful society concerned with the preservation of human dignity"; and

WHEREAS, the 13th Olympic Congress, to be convened in Denmark, October, 2009, will choose the location of the 2016 Summer Olympic Games; and

WHEREAS, Chicago, USA and Tokyo, Japan are finalists for the 2016 Summer Games; and

WHEREAS, the United States and Japan require that visitors be photographed and fingerprinted as a condition of temporary entry; and

WHEREAS, the fingerprinting, photographing, and the permanent archival of those prints and photographs, are an affront to human dignity, a considerably invasion of privacy and are of dubious merit; and

WHEREAS, the International Olympic Committee is required to maintain the spirit of the Olympic Charter, and that the selection of Chicago or Tokyo for the 2016 Summer Games would be in violation of that charter, as long as the respective nations fingerprint and photograph visitors as a condition of entry; and

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the signees of this petition urge that the International Olympic Committee reject and disqualify Chicago and Tokyo for the 2016 Summer Games.
