Online Petition to End Online Petitions |
To: Online PetitionersWhereas it requires little to no effort to create an online petition;
Whereas it requires even less effort to sign an online petition;
Whereas the signing of an online petition may grant a signer a sense of accomplishment and release from a moral duty though nothing has actually been done;
Whereas this sense of accomplishment and release from a moral duty may preclude actual action for change;
Whereas the persons or entities being petitioned usually have no knowledge of said petition;
Whereas there exists no way to validate the signatures of an online petition to ensure it is not staxored;
Whereas there exists no mechanism to enforce the results of the petition;
Be it resolved that:
All online petitioning should immediately cease.
All ongoing online petitions should be immediately deleted so that their signers and creators can do something more productive, like make sandwiches.
This petition, as a meta-petition, is exempt from itself.
We the undersigned support, uphold, and agree with the above resolutions, except as they pertain to this petition and that we may do something else aside from making sandwiches.
Sincerely,
