Amazon.com CENSORS American Indians Yet Allows FRAUDS Who POSE As Native Medicine People Free Reign!

At the same time, WHITE RACISTS can say whatever they want at Amazon.com about books that are sympathetic to Native people and causes!

So says James Pogatschnik at the Customer Service Department at
Amazon.com, even while hypocritically claiming they support complete
freedom of speech at their website, "but with editorial control."
This was in response to recent efforts by members of NAFPS to comment
on a New Age book by Maria Naylin AKA "Maria Yraceburu," allegedly
a "Quero Apache ceremonial elder" with two books sold on the
Amazon.com website.

The White Mountain Apache Cultural Preservation Office says Naylin
and her teachings and claims are utterly fraudulent. "She and her
works are among the latest in a long line of misguided efforts to
make unauthorized and inappropriate use of Native American culture
and history -- cobbled-together half-truths and fabrications intended
to deceive and derive profit from the hopes and fears of those
seeking to understand themselves and American Indians," according to
archaeologist John Welch.

The "Quero Apache" simply don't exist. Naylin uses Navajo words and
claims they are Apache, and teaches a ludicrous hodgepodge of
Hinduism, New Age knockoffs of Plains Indian ceremonies, "core
shamanism," and even stories about Atlantis. Naylin even uses the
tribe's museum logo without permission, ignoring requests to stop.

Yet attempts by members of NAFPS to post reviews of her books that
pointed these things out have been consistently censored by
Amazon.com, more than half a dozen of them, no matter how gently or
non-confrontationally worded. Amazon.com further dug in their heels
and completely deleted an older review by a Mescalero Apache named
Michael Enjeady that pointed out errors in her books much the same
way.

Clearly Amazon.com is only interested in protecting its own bottom
line. These standards are ONLY being used to provide special
protection for New Age and Pseudo-Shamanism books that are written by
obvious imposters such as Naylin, or exploiters and commercializers
of Native beliefs for profit such as Ed McGaa.

And yet they do NOT apply the same standards to OTHER non-Native
works. Christian-oriented books, theology books, and others routinely
have reviews that allow similar criticism.

Clearly they will not change unless we stand up and MAKE them change!

We, the members of NAFPS call upon all Native people and all
supporters of Native causes to BOYCOTT Amazon.com!

BOYCOTT them until they have enough respect for Native people to
allow our voices to be heard!

Buy Your Books Elsewhere! There are DOZENS of other online services
one can use.

For those in academia, especially if you write on or research about
American Indians, DO NOT support Amazon.com! Do NOT urge your
students to get their books through Amazon.com! Urge them to use
other alternatives! You are the key to costing them hundreds of
thousands of dollars until they change their behavior.
