311 Tailgating Ban Petition

To whom it may concern,

It has come to my attention that 311 was selected as one of the few concerts at the PNC Bank Arts Center venue where tailgating has been prohibited. I believe this may stem from false accusations that 311 and their fans promote underage drinking and unruly behavior. This is simply untrue and an unfair assumption.

Fans of 311 dedicate themselves to supporting a band that promotes positivity and non-violence. Many people travel great distances to follow the band from venue to venue, and tailgating is how the 311 community remains strong. The 2008 311 day show is a prime example of the strong community ties. 311 fans from all 50 states and various countries from around the world united to participate in the Habitat for Humanity project, building a home for Katrina victims. We are a fan base that cares about the community. Tailgating was allowed at this major concert event in New Orleans, which consisted of XX times the fans that attend the PNC show. Composure and decorum were demonstrated throughout the tailgating festivities.

By prohibiting tailgating, fans will now be forced to tailgate off the PNC Bank Arts Center premises, and then must drive to the venue to see the show. This puts thousands of fans, and the general public in the surrounding towns at a great risk of drunk driving accidents, and LiveNation/PNC Bank Arts Center will be held liable.

311 and their fans are being compared to those of Ozzfest, whose 2007 show was riddled with violence, underage drinking, and erratic behavior. Please understand that the fanbase of these two events is completely different. Additionally, unruly events at shows such as Ozzfest are the exception, not the rule. It is unfair to include 311 in the tailgating ban based on the exceptions.

Heightened security to prevent underage drinking was appropriate for last year's 311 concert, and it should remain the same for this year as well. 311 shows do not attract the overabundance of underage people nor do they promote underage drinking, as LiveNation appears to believe. Please reconsider the ban on tailgating.
