Save 399 Franklin Street in Buffalo, NY |
To: Mayor Byron Brown and Buffalo Common CouncilWhereas, 399 Franklin Street in Buffalo, NY is at risk of unnecessary demolition; and,
Whereas, 399 Franklin Street is a rare Civil War-era brick Italianate; and
Whereas, 399 Franklin Street is situated in Allentown, Buffalo's largest historic district; and
Whereas, Buffalo's architectural legacy and rich sense of place are our strongest hopes for an urban rediscovery and renaissance;
Whereas, the City of Buffalo has ample vacant lots and empty commercial buildings; and
Whereas, the owners of 399 Franklin Street, a respected, locally-owned printing company, deserve priority assistance from local economic development agencies and professionals to relocate them to a more advantageous and affordable site; and
Whereas, the undersigned believe that a win-win outcome is possible, both protecting the building and enabling a healthy business expansion;
We, the undersigned, urge Mayor Byron Brown and the Buffalo Common Council to deny the permit to demolish 399 Franklin Street and to do everything in their power to help the owners relocate to a site that does not require needless architectural sacrifice in a successful and beloved historic neighborhood.
Sincerely,
