Our beloved Coquitlam Express team was moved to Burnaby in 2005 due to unsatisfactory conditions at the Coquitlam Sports Centre.
Things have changed and now it would be in the best interest of fans and the Burnaby Express' owner's that the team is relocated back to Coquitlam!
REASONS TO MOVE BACK TO COQUITLAM
- As of March 1, 2009 the Burnaby Express was only averaging 710 fans per game!
- Starting the 09-10 season, they're only averaging 548 fans per game!
- The Coquitlam Express averaged 1091 fans in their last season in Coquitlam! (Shows where all the true hockey fans are!)
The Coquitlam Sports Centre is undergoing renovations that would make it a great place for the Express to play at. Such renovations include:
- Increasing the main arena's seats from 1500 to 1900 (2200 including standing room)
- Replacement of the recreational arena
- Replacement of curling rink
- Lobby improvements to integrate the facility with the Aquatic and Fitness Centre
- New washrooms, concession areas, dressing rooms, and administration areas
Moving the team back to Coquitlam not only provides residents of the Tri-cities (Coquitlam, PoCo, Port Moody) easy access to BCHL hockey games, but will also increase revenue for the Express.
With the arena problem solved and almost guaranteed higher attendance numbers than in Burnaby; Why not move it back to Coquitlam?
