Class 442 trains, otherwise known as 5-WES have been serving the Weymouth Waterloo line since the late 1980ies, when they were built. For the people they carry, they provide a comfortable environment for distance travelling.
South West Trains is currently in the process of withdrawing these trains. The withdrawal process will be complete by February 2007. Class 444 trains will be taking their place. While the Class 444s are reasonable, modern trains, they do not have the same levels of comfort or ride quality as the Class 442s.
We would like to see some, if not all the Class 442s retained by South West Trains and kept on the Weymouth Waterloo line where the remaining few are currently deployed.
SWT Please listen to your customers and KEEP THE 442s on SWT METALS!
