Keep Script Banned
More Info at:
This petition is to ask Fanfiction.net to not lift the ban on script formatted stories. Many writers that post at your site utilize script format for poor humor and parody works, or poorly written 'stories' that are out for as many reviews and as little work as possible, and aren't interested in the valid forms of expression that come with fanfiction. Movies, Television shows, Comic Books, Mangas, Animes and Video games are all created from scripts, but they all have one thing in common: They use PICTURES. Almost every category in your site is based on a fandom that is created from scripts, but these fandoms are viewed, not written. They are meant to be read as stories, not watched in any way. By refusing to archive scripted works you are not only increasing the quality of fanfiction as a whole, but you are complimenting the stories that we have all grown to love. We ask that you keep the ban and allow us aspiring authors as well as editors the opportunities to post our works and have them kept at a viewable level, without being buried. It is only fair that as fanfiction writers we have the same opportunities as the people who pull stuff up in 15 minutes to have the same type of recognition. The goal is to improve your writing and go on to bigger and better things. Even if fanfiction.net wants a community of writers to "Unleash their imaginations and free their souls", it shouldn't mean that there should be no limits. Why, the U.S., for example, is a place of freedom, but that doesn't mean you're free to break the set laws. Besides, a writer who wants to be like Peter Jackson or Steven Spielberg should work on doing plays and movies, etc., and less on written fanfiction, while a writer who wants to be like Stephen King or J.R.R. Tolkien should focus more on written stories. We know that script can be as entertaining as prose, but the people have abused the privilage, and most people misuse it. They have had the opportunity to prove that script formatted stories can be just as entertaining and well written as any other type of writing. Thank you for your time and we hope that you take our words to heart as we have a passion for writing and fairplay.
