In 1972, the NC State Wolf Pack dismantled West Virginia in the 5th edition of the Peach Bowl. Lou Holtz's squad handed the Mountaineers a devastating 49-13 final score, which still stands as WVU's worst postseason loss. It would take three years for the program to get to another bowl; then, in 1975, Bobby Bowden's team returned to Atlanta for the Peach Bowl. Their opponent: NC State, once again.
West Virginia was revamped, defensively. NC State would have the lead for most of the game, but only managed to score 10 points against a stubborn Mountaineer defense. The offense never gave up--down 10-6, with under eight minutes to go, West Virginia's QB, Dan Kendra, connected with receiver Scott MacDonald for a 50-yard touchdown pass. They scored the extra point, putting themselves on top of the Wolf Pack, 13-10. West Virginia's staunch defending prevented NC State from putting more points on the board; the Mountaineers' 4th quarter comeback avenged the previous loss.
Aside from a VHS tape reviewing the 1975 WVU football season (containing only a mere fraction of the game film), there are no officially released copies of the original broadcast. To all fans, you should sign this petition, since the bowl victory is a notable piece of Mountaineer lore. Hopefully, if the petition gets a high number of votes, it will convince the Mizlou television network and the Chick-Fil-A' Bowl committee to release the 1975 Peach Bowl on DVD. We, the Mountaineer Nation, need your signature! I will also be starting petitions for other WVU bowl wins that never had a DVD release, so look for them!
