To:  Canderel Stoneridge

At your 777 Bay Street property, the stairwells are locked and accessible only for emergency use. This is a tremendous waste of energy and a source of frustration to many tenants, because people on the lower floors are forced to use the elevator when they could be using the stairs much of the time. This is exacerbated by the fact that the largest floor plates in the building (and presumably the most people per floor) are on the lower six floors and the east block of elevators are slow and unreliable. It also means people must use the elevator just to go between floors, which is a common occurrence due to the high number of Ontario government offices in the building and ministries spanning multiple floors.

Please make the changes necessary to allow tenants regular access to the stairs. Making the stairs accessible would have multiple benefits:
• Reduced elevator use resulting in lower energy consumption and costs as well as maintenance costs.
• Faster elevator trips to higher floors due to fewer stops on lower floors.
• Improved tenant health and satisfaction.
• Improved image for Canderel Stoneridge as a responsive, environmentally responsible organization.

Sincerely,

The Undersigned
