Get Real Sex Education

This is a petition to stop the teaching of abstinence only in schools. Generations today are exposed to harsher environments than that of past generations, and are being brought up in a world where sex is advertised almost everywhere. By teaching abstinence only you are restricting future generations of knowledge that could potentially help them, or even save a life.
Just because you are teaching teens about sex, it doesn’t mean that you are giving them consent to have sex. However, it does mean that you are teaching teens the proper and safe way to engage in sexual intercourse. This information could help teens prevent the spread of HIV/AIDS/STD’S in their generations and in generations to come. It would also inform teens on how to properly use condoms, and lower the rate of teen pregnancy. In addition, a refined Sex Ed class for our changing world should include self defense, how to recognize predators, how alcohol and drugs affect your judgment, multiple partners, how to take care of your body, setting up doctor’s appointments, how to get regularly tested, and much much more.
We are two teen girls that believe knowledge is key, and by restricting us of this knowledge you force us to look elsewhere. In friends, the internet, etc. This often leads to false information, and even worse wrong decisions. We know from watching people in our community, and hearing stories from others that if they had just known the facts that their minds may have changed, and they would have made wiser decisions. We ask that you sign our petition to put real sex education back into our schools. You can’t keep teens from having sex, but you can properly inform them about the dangers that come with the pleasures.
