Free A.K.Sen Guptha

A.K.Sen Guptha, a well known Book Publisher, who played a crucial role in publishing the international revolutionary journal ‘A World to Win’ and who brought out it’s Hindi edition almost single handedly is languishing in Raipur jail for his political belief in the ideology of Maoism.

Asith Kumar Sen Guptha alias A.K.Sen Guptha is conducting a Book Publishing House in the name of ‘ Purvaiya Prakashan’ dedicated in the publication of books of common interest. He edited and published ‘ Com.Mao tse tung’s evaluations of Com. Stalin and Red flag flying on the rooftop of the planet’.Women’s liberation in Mao’s China written by Claudia Brayelle and published by ‘Purvaiya Prakashan’ is one of the much read books among the political activists. A.K.Sen Guptha is a familiar face in the International Book Fairs held at Calcutta and Delhi.

A.K.Sen Guptha .was arrested on 22.1.2008 from his house by the Tikkarpara police.The police seized one CPU and some Marxist literature from his house. He was brought to the police station and a crime no: 33/2008 was registered under sections 120 b,121 A, 123A,124A of Indian Penal Code and under sections 2(b),(c),8(1),(2),(3),and (5) of the most notorious Chattisgargh Special Security Act,2005, for waging war against state and being associated with banned organisation.

Nearly one year is elapsed after his arrest .Till this date no cogent evidence is brought against A.K.Sen Guptha by the police except the Marxist literature seized from his house.

A.K.Sen Guptha’s belief in the Maoism is what the state considers to be a crime.

Maoism as an ideology is not banned in our country. India is a country where every citizens are guaranteed to profess and propagate any ideology and freedom for free speech and expression. Reading books or articles in a subject of one’s personal interest is an essential component of fundamental right of free speech and expression. Being a publisher ,to read various books and articles is an essential part of his duty.

The arrest and detention of A.K.Sen Guptha is a clear violation of fundamental rights guaranteed by the constitution of India.

Hence we the undersigned demand an unconditional, immediate release of A.K.Sen Guptha and an immediate withdrawal of the false cases registered against him.
