Preservation of Arlington Youth Baseball

To:  Arlington County Department of Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Resources

We, the undersigned, are opposed to County efforts to compel a merger of Arlington’s youth baseball organizations as proposed by the current Consolidation Committee. Our reasons are as follows:

• Chairpersons have presented neither a compelling internal motivation nor an overwhelming public desire for consolidation to the community.
• Transparency of process has been nonexistent.
• No proposal, with specific details of transition and implementation, has been presented to the community for comment.
• Time allotted for transition is insufficient.
• The Committee has not explained the basis for its authority to act unilaterally to disband successful and cherished community volunteer institutions dedicated to promoting youth baseball in our county.

A merger at this time would be forced, rushed, and exclusive in its construction. It is not in the best interest of Arlington’s children, and I, therefore, do not support it.
