Landmark the Austin, Nichols & Co. Warehouse |
To: New York City CouncilTo: Hon. Gifford Miller
Speaker
New York City Council
Dear Speaker Miller:
I urge you and your colleagues on the City Council to approve the landmark designation of the Austin, Nichols & Company Warehouse (184 Kent Avenue). Designed by Cass Gilbert, one of America's premier architects, Austin Nichols is a significant work of architecture and an important reminder of the New York harbor's role in industry and commerce. The designation of Austin Nichols by the Landmark Preservation Commission was fair and well-considered. Designation was endorsed by many scholars, historians, preservationists and civic groups, as well as by hundreds of neighborhood residents. I join these people in urging you and your colleagues to support the work of the Landmarks Commission and to designate Austin Nichols.
Thank you.
Sincerely,
