Scrap the BBC licence fee |
To: The Rt. Hon. James Purnell MPIt’s about time the BBC was forced to relinquish its unfair licence fee
WE SAY ** NO ** TO THE BBC LICENCE FEE
This petition will be sent to The Rt. Hon. James Purnell MP, the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport.
For many years the BBC has forced the UK population to pay for a television licence fee to watch broadcast programmes. We the undersigned think it is time this fee was abolished.
With the advent of digital TV and the internet, people now have more choice of how and when they watch television – not just from the BBC, but from worldwide sources. These developments invalidate the unjustifiable licence fee.
The BBC is the only company to benefit from the licence fee – and the only one in England NOT to use advertising as a means of revenue generation. Consequently, the BBC’s monopoly of the income generated is outdated - and against the wishes of the vast majority of the UK population.
From this year, 2007, the UK is going digital – no longer dependent on the BBC for either programmes or service. Let’s make 2007 the last year in which the BBC receives this unfair, unjustified, outdated fee.
SAY NO TO THE BBC
