Warner Bros should not cut any of Ledger's performance in "The Dark Knight" and let Nolan decide on final cuts. |
There are only two demands in the description... not three like how they are listed. Sorry for the typo.
To: Warner Brothers, AOL Time WarnerLate July, The Dark Knight will be released widely across theaters worldwide. We, the fans, have been following this movie since it started filming last summer. We have participated in all of the viral marketing campaigns that Warner Brothers asked us to be involved with.
It is the Number One most anticipated movie of all year. It is not just Batman fans who are looking forward to this film. It's most movie fans who are excited as well.
Here are 3 demands we are making to Warner Brothers.
1) No Heath Ledger/The Joker scenes get cut.
Cutting any Heath Ledger/The Joker scenes out of "The Dark Knight" is a slap in the face to Heath Ledger's talent. No matter how controversial any of the scenes might be, we demand that NOTHING gets pulled out of the movie regarding footage with The Joker. This movie should be a tribute to his career and pulling out any scenes (even if it's just one scene) from the movie is a huge disrespect to him. Especially with all the work he put into his role.
2) Cut as little of the movie as possible.
Rumors are circulating that the movie is close to 3 hours long. Give us the longest cut of the movie that you can. We want the movie to be at least 2 hours and 45 minutes long. Warner Bros has asked fans to retrieve purple bowling balls Joker birthday cakes and cell phones, dress up like the Joker, and perform other crazy scenarios for this movie. The biggest reward you could give fans is the most "complete and epic" movie possible. Christopher Nolan has called "The Dark Knight" a crime epic. And that's exactly what it should be. An epic. A 2 hour and 45 minute cut is perfect.
Final Thoughts: This movie is already generating Oscar buzz for many of the actors involved with it. You don't have to be an "artsy" movie to win an academy award. Lord of the Rings won an Academy Award, and so can The Dark Knight. The Dark Knight has better chances to win an academy award because it has an all star cast, and it has gangster/mob themes which the Academy is known for loving.
Cut as little as you can from this movie. Christopher Nolan is a master of editing and pacing. Nolan brought back so much respect to Batman with "Batman Begins". Have faith in this man, and give us the long, epic Batman that we desire.Sincerely,
