We, the undersigned, call upon the Brandeis University Administration and Athletic Director to not suspend the Brandeis University Swimming and Diving Team at the end of the 2009-1010 season.
In the fall of 2008, the Brandeis University Lou and Lutza pool closed for repairs. Due to this closure, the Athletics Administration has decided to suspend the Swim team after the 2009-2010 campaign. Thanks to Regis College and Bentley college, the team has found a consistent place to train without any cost to the team. Swim team members continue to excel in both the water and classroom, as demonstrated by nationals qualifiers and a high GPA after the 2008-2009 season.
With a history of almost forty years, to disband the team would be detrimental to both the university and a slap in the face of all the former BUSDT members(numbering close to 500 alumni). The closure of facility does not require the cutting of a team if adequate training facilities are found and the students are minimally affected by the change.
We ask that the Administration strongly reconsider their decision.
