We, the undersigned professional and academic faculty members at SUNY New Paltz, strongly oppose the college administration's 2009-2010 budget plan to eliminate the Nursing department and to suspend admission to the M.S. Ed. and M.A.T. graduate programs in Chemistry, Earth Science, French, Mathematics and Spanish, all of which serve vital needs in our region and state. Rather than cutting jobs and programs, the administration should be focusing on ways to generate more revenue. At a time of increased demand for public higher education, we should be strengthening and not reducing our academic programs.
