ref: Hockey Night in Canada theme music license renewal
Mr. Hubert T. Lacroix
President and Chief Executive Officer of the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC)/ Radio-Canada
CBC Head Office
P.O. Box 3220, Station C
Ottawa, ON K1Y 1E4
Mr. Lacroix,
We, the undersigned, request a reversal of CBC's June 4th 2008 decision not to enter into a new license agreement with respect to the use of the Dolores Claman Hockey Night in Canada theme music. It is our understanding that the current license agreement expires at the conclusion of the 2007/08 NHL playoffs.
Written by Ms. Claman in 1968 the Dunt- da-DUNT- da-dunt refrain has become one of the longest running theme songs in broadcasting history.
We urge you to reconsider this decision in order to ensure that 'Canada's Second National Anthem' continues to inspire Canadian hockey fans from coast to coast.
