Central Coast Velodrome Movement

To:  Santa Barbara County and Cities within

To: County of Santa Barbara Board of Supervisors, as well as the Mayors and City Council Members of the City of Goleta, City of Santa Barbara, City of Carpinteria, City of Buellton, City of Solvang, City of Guadalupe, and the City of Santa Maria.

We, the undersigned, residents of the County of Santa Barbara, and the named cities urge you all to begin the process of acquiring land, the partial funding, and the construction of a bicycle racing track facility, a Velodrome, in Santa Barbara County. If suitable County or City owned land is not available for such use, the County, or City Councils should establish a requirement on land slated to be developed, that besides open space or park land being set aside, so to should land be set aside to locate this area’s only bicycling specific venue, a Velodrome.

Establishing this venue will provide the County of Santa Barbara and it’s cities with many benefits including:

The area’s only off road bicycle track racing and training facility.
Will provide much needed family recreation.
Will provide a safe off street location to educate the area’s youth on bicycle safety.
Would be multi-use, with facilities for basketball, volleyball, tennis, in line skating, and remote control cars.
Located in the right place, the Velodrome could be used as a bicycle commuter hub complete with a Bike Shop that aids residents in obtaining bicycles for transportation, bike lockers, showers, and an athletic club.
The facility would be built with enough office and conference space so as to be used for meetings and a daily source of revenue.
Would host events on all levels.
Will provide a way for the County of Santa Barbara and Cities within to give something back to an industry, which contributes tremendously to the local economy.

This facility will benefit all County residents while also being very cost effective.

Please, let’s work together and begin the process of building this long sought after sports facility.
