To:  Supreme Court of Canada

In Canadian society, so much weight has been put on a victim's shoulders. The voice of the victim is seldom heard by the judges, the Crowns, or attorneys, as this is a day to day routine for them.

Victims of violent crime are unable to function after they are assaulted. They are plagued with anxiety, flashbacks, extreme paranoia, fear, often eating disorders, insomnia, depression, physical fatigue and pain, emotional turbulence, depression, isolation, and financial difficulties. There have been steps in the right direction, but one step left out has been the overall consideration for the accused before the victim.

In cases where a violent crime such as sexual assault, aggravated assault, spousal abuse, stalking, or threats, has taken place, many times these offenders are granted bail, where they are free to roam around and seek revenge on those who stood up and phoned the police. Some of these offenders have proven to have lengthy criminal records containing cases regarding violence. They sometimes break the conditions of their release, and end up in jail again. Then they are offered bail again. This cycle continues, and makes a mockery of our Canadian justice system.

We believe that the rights of the victim come before the rights of the accused. In cases involving violence where the offender has a history of violence, we do not agree that they should be granted bail. In cases involving voilence where the accused breaks the conditions of his release, he should not be granted bail a second or third time.

We ask that the safety of the victims is put above the comfort of the accused. We ask that before considering the accused for release that all factors relating to retaliation and violence be fully reviewed, and justice is provided to the victim. The victim did not choose for this crime to happen, the accused chose to commit the crime.

We, a united front, are signing this petition with the intention of bring the injustice towards victims to a halt. As a united front, we are signing this petition to make the world aware that we will not stand for the courts' decisions to knowingly putting a victim at risk. We, as a united front, are seeking to bury our words deep in the hearts of all who read this who want to say enough is enough with violence and brutality of those already victimized and their families.

Sincerely,

The Undersigned
