The Canadian Relief Fund for Chernobyl Victims in Belarus (CRFCVB) is a non-profit organization whose primary purpose is to provide humanitarian and medical aid to children in Belarus who continue to be affected by radiation caused by the nuclear accident at Chernobyl. As part of the program, children are brought to Canada from Belarus for a 6 week respite from conditions in their home country.
In turn, these children return home to Belarus with good health and wonderful memories of Canada.
Currently, the government of Belarus has instituted travel restrictions, and each country must sign an agreement promising that the children will return to Belarus following their 6 week stay. Canada has yet to sign this agreement and as such, the fate of the program is in jeopardy. We, the undersigned, thereby petition the government of Canada to sign the agreement with Belarus in order for the 2009 program to continue
