Hunterston and Longannet — NO to new coal |
To: To John Swinney MSP, Cabinet Secretary for Finance and Sustainable Growth
We ask the Scottish Government not to allow new, dirty coal-fired power stations in Scotland until full
carbon capture and storage systems are available. The Government’s aims of transformation to a low-
carbon economy would be negated by a new plant at Hunterston, which would emit seven times more
carbon dioxide (CO2) than the whole of Malawi. We call on the Scottish Government to act now to limit
emissions from coal-fired stations to 350g CO2 per kWh, reduce Scotland’s dependency on fossil
fuels, and increase investment in renewable technologies.
Sincerely,
