We, the parents of more than 300 students living in the community of Chaparral that attend Centennial High which is our designated public high school, propose a change in the existing 78/178 bus route. The current route is outdated and we need a more direct and convenient route. Rather than going to the train station first, which is out of the way, we propose that we have morning and after school buses that go directly from Chaparral across the highway into the community of Sundance, which is where the school (and other schools and events) is located. Right now, it takes 4 times as long for the bus to reach the school than it should, and the students are either very early or late getting to school. The return home trip is also taking too long, most notably the Friday commute when school lets out at 2:00 and the students arrive in Chaparral at 3:30! The community of Chaparral is about a 6 minute drive from Centennial!
This bus route should be a circle trip, rather than going back and forth, most of which is along a highway with no stops anyway. There would be no inconvenience for other commuters, as the bus would still get to the train station in the same amount of time it would with the current route.
