Recently, Chase Manhattan has increased its ATM fees for non-customers to $3.00! This is an attempt to further penalize non-Chase customers for using Chase ATMs. Their apparent motivation is that this will influence non-Chase customers who frequently use Chase ATMs to become Chase customers.

So what can we do? We can make a stand. While signing an online petition is not (legally) the same as signing a hard copy petition, it will illustrate that there is a large number of concerned individuals.

But more importantly, we can simply choose to use other ATMs. Anytime a customer is charged this fee, Chase makes a profit. Using our home ATM usually will not cost us anything. Using non-Chase ATMs that are not from our home bank will still cost us, but it will cost us less. Most ATMs only charge $2.00!

In the Downtown Akron area, there are at least four competing bank branches. First Merit Bank, National City Bank, Key Bank, and Sky Bank are all located in Downtown Akron. By using these ATMs instead, we will be sending a powerful message to Chase Manhattan. $3.00 is too much!
