WE CAN NO LONGER EXIST IN A FOOTLOOSE STATE!!!

Ever since Mayor Rudolph Giuliani created the multi-agency Nightclub Enforcement Task Force (aka Multi-Agency Response to Community Hotspots: MARCH) to enforce his "Quality of Life" campaign, the city has created an adversarial relationship with its own nightlife culture and its corresponding industry. We feel the city has been losing a vital element of its cultural identity as well as a key economic engine that fuels a variety of other city economies. Passed in the Prohibition year of 1926, the Cabaret Laws are antiquated, inconsistently enforced and restrictive of our basic freedoms of expression. Many New Yorkers have been adversely effected by the enforcement of these long-outdated laws, and by signing this petition we urge you as a public official representing our voices to support reform of the Cabaret Laws.

The time is now to reform the Laws, update the regulatory scheme and return New York to its rightful status as nightlife capital of the world. Kevin Bacon's character fought for and won his right to dance in a 1984 movie about the rural midwest - don't let New York City become the next "Footloose"!
