Subject: Save Dhanori Lake
Sir,

We, the Citizens of Pune support and are in complete solidarity with the Dhanori Citizens Forum to save Dhanori Lake. We request you and the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) to preserve and conserve the Dhanori Lake for all Punekars (residents of Pune).

The Dhanori Lake is a 26 acre reservoir of freshwater. Water from the lake is used by housing societies around it since they are located in a water scarce area. The lake is also home to ducks, fishes and is visited by migratory birds. Further this lake is in the INTACH as well as in the PMC heritage list as a Category 1 Natural Heritage site.

Please take into consideration Rule 11.1.b of the Development Control Rules which mentions inter alia that: 'Notwithstanding the above, the authority shall be entitled to take cognisance of the existence of all water courses whether shown on the Development Plan or not while sanctioning layouts and no person shall take any action without the permission of authority which results in reducing the water way or closing or filling up of any existing water course.'

And NOT allow anyone to dump rubble etc into the lake and block the existing subterranean watercourse.
We also would request you to ensure that PMC and all its officers do NOT give permission to anyone to construct or do anything harmful to the Dhanori Lake.

We would be grateful if you take action on a priority basis, and acquire the property and begin the conservation of the Dhanori Lake. This pristine water body, the Dhanori Lake, has to be preserved and we all would request you to strive to the utmost to make this happen..
