THE DAVID WONG SUPPORT COMMITTEE PETITION TO CLINTON COUNTY DISTRICT ATTORNEY, RICHARD CANTWELL:

In 1986, David Wong, a Chinese immigrant who did not speak English at the time, was framed for a murder in prison that he did not commit. An all-white jury convicted David without an interpreter who spoke his Fukienese Chinese dialect. There was neither evidence nor any motive to be found. The fact that he did not receive a fair trial and was framed because he was Chinese, who did not speak English, proves the injustice of this criminal system.

In late September 2004, five judges in the New York state appeals court unanimously overturned David Wongs 18-year-old murder conviction. The appellate judges also said new evidence strongly suggests David Wong didn't kill the inmate. The chief witness, Peter Dellfava, recanted his testimony. The defense identified the real killer and the motive. Eyewitnesses to the crime have come forward in support of Davids innocence. David Wong has received strong community support.

We demand that you drop the murder charge against David Wong.
