Free David Irving

David Irving is a prisoner of conscience. He was imprisoned for his beliefs. If your nation so backward that it locks people up because of what they believe than we recommend you have a long hard look at yourselves. No civilised nation has the right to bully debate in the academic community. No-one has the right to interfere with freedom of speech. How can hatreds of others be anything but fermented by stifling the debate that would undermine such hatred?
We believe that David Irving should have the same right to free speech as any one else. To quote US Supreme Court Justice Oliver Wendell Holmes in United States v. Schwimmer (1929) "The principle of free thought is not free thought for those who agree with us but freedom for the thought we hate." If Mr Irving has an opinion you hate then engage him in debate and try and change that view - that is the civilised way!
