We, the undersigned citizens, want Clam Bayou estuary to continue to be a sanctuary for wildlife and vegetation. We want to protect the delicate balance of nature in the estuary. Dredging channels through the estuary would destroy shellfish, sea grass, mangroves, fiddler crabs, hunting patterns of wading birds, and other fragile eco-systems in Clam Bayou. We oppose dredging as a solution for cleaning up Clam Bayou. Dredging will do more harm than good in the sensitive aquatic preserve of Clam Bayou.
We oppose Gulfport Resolution No. 2008-33 which proposes to excavate (dredge) the Clam Bayou estuary. We want Southwest Florida Water Management District (SWFWMD) to finish the final phase of their long term program to clean up Clam Bayou. The SWFWMD programs estimated completion date is 2009.
