To:  Senator Conroy

Dear Senator Conroy,

You are about to start a trial of the proposed web filter to SAVE THE CHILDREN FROM THE EVILS OF THE INTERNET.

We could bash on about infringement of civil liberties and the like but to be honest we can't be bothered. It is much simpler just to point out the utter stupidity of a scheme that will a) slow down the already slow internet by up to 87% and b) be easily circumvented in seconds by anyone with a basic knowledge of computers e.g. school children, paedophiles and talented pets.

If we want to protect our children from the EVILS OF THE INTERNET then we are quite capable of installing filtering software on our own computers. This sort of software now often comes free with virus software anyway and has the bonus of not slowing the internet to the extent where 2 tin cans and a long piece of string become a viable communication method.

So in summary, it is going to cost the people who voted for you a huge amount of money with two possible outcome 1) some filtering is achieved but
with internet speeds reduced to that of an arthritic snail and 2) utter failure with internet speeds reduced to that of an arthritic snail.

So please stop it now. It is silly.

Sincerely,

The Undersigned
