Fund Top Surgery for FTMs in Scotland

To:  NHS and Scottish Parliament.

We, the undersigned, are appalled at the treatment FTM Men have received from the NHS in regards to obtaining 'Top surgery' as part of Their transition.

'Top surgery' is an integral part of the transition and is a deeply important step in the lives of FTM men. Without it they are forced to live with severe depression, physical and mental pain and social anxiety.

Through spending long years wearing binders while waiting for surgery many have developed medical issues such as but not limited to: Sciatica, Cervical Radiculopathy, Severe migraines and Torn muscles.

For so many to be given 'Bottom' surgery and have no issues with funding but to be refused 'Top surgery' is cruel, irresponsible and dangerous.
It increases depression, pushes some men towards suicide risk and causes physical discomfort and injury.

For many no clear reason has been given as to why their funding has been denied, cut or taken back after they were checked by surgeons and told it would be possible.

We will not stand by any longer as our Members of Parliament, Members of Scottish Parliament and NHS heads tell us that our friends, partners, siblings and sons do not deserve to be treated and must suffer in silence.

We demand that funding be allocated for anyone who has been undergoing hormone therapy for one year as per the standards of care.
A long wait list due to lack of surgeons is understandable, but to refuse to fund the surgeries for those who have waited and worked towards them is unjust and unacceptable.
