North Carolina football, since Mack Brown's departure, has atrophied to the point of becoming a national punchline. The interlocking NC logo was once one feared and respected not only in basketball but also in football. Poor leadership decisions, such as the extension of John Bunting's contract after his loss in the Tire Bowl and a .500 season, have led to this decline in status. If our administration truly holds the various athletic programs to similar standards then how is it that John Bunting, statistically one of the worst coaches ever to pace UNC's sidelines, is still employed? Matt Doherty, another alumnus who loved the University, was fired only a few years removed from winning National Coach of the Year honors and after recruiting what would become the foundation class of our 2005 Championship team in basketball. Nowhere is it written that a school may only be serious about either football or basketball, there are countless example of this. Let us not settle and continue to flounder in mediocrity!

We the undersigned support what we believe to be the best course of action regarding the improvement of the University of North Carolina football program, and that is the termination of the contract of head coach John Bunting. We implore the Carolina Athletic Association administration to prove that they too believe in Carolina football.
