Mumia Abu-Jamal was a prominent radio journalist who allowed the angry and anguished voices of the oppressed onto the air waves. A member of the Black Panther Party from age 14 and later a supporter of the MOVE organization, he was known as The Voice of the Voiceless" on Philly air waves. As time passed, he gained notoriety for his use of the First Amendment, and was the recipient of a Major Armstrong Award for radio journalism, and was named one of Philadelphia's "people to watch" in 1981 by Philadelphia magazine. Mumia was not just a voice; he was The voice for black journalism in Philly, as he was also president of the Association of Black Journalists in Philadelphia.

But it was Mumias ability to use the First Amendment that made the State of Pennsylvania, and the United States government for that matter, feel as if he was as Woodrow Wilson put it in 1920 when speaking of A. Phillip Randolph, A Dangerous Negro. As stated earlier, Mumia was a Journalist in Philadelphia, and from the beginning, Mumia was (and still is) a man of his people, and a man for human equality. Mumia constantly reported stories that clearly showed the magnitude of the flagitious actions of the Philadelphia Police Department, and other atrocities that were occurring around the nation. The police, as vile as they were, had the audacity to believe that they were getting a bad rap and thus, the set-up of brotha Mumia was put forth into action.

Mumia has been in prison since 1981, and on Death row since 1983, for the alleged murder of officer Daniel Faulkner. Though a vast amount of evidence, as well as numerous testimonies from people that clearly state that it was not Mumia-Abu Jamal who killed officer Faulkner, our judicial system has made a concious effort to keep this man quiet.

We must act without haste, as Mumias last court appeal is the 17th of May, 2007. By signing this petition you can help make a difference and save an innocent man.

Ladies and gentlemen: Mumia Abu-Jamal is innocent, and he is going to be put to death because hate is overpowering love in this case, but it doesnt have to end like this. With your help we can help free a True Hero. Only twice in the twentieth century have there been court ordered executions of political dissidents in the United States. The last time was the Rosenbergs over 40 years ago. And the government has not dared to carry out the legal execution of a prominent Black revolutionary since the days of slavery. To let them get away with such an act now would send a chilling message throughout society. It would affect the political climate for years to come.

The choice is yours. By signing this petition we are doing so much more than just taking a step in the right direction for Mumia, but we are also taking a step forward in the advancement of our minds, so that there never is another Mumia Abu-Jamal who will have over 1/3 of their lives taken from them.

"They don't just want my death, they want my silence".
Mumia Abu-Jamal
