Petition to ALLOW City Planners to Consider Homes on a CASE BY CASE method.

We, the undersigned, are asking that the City of Goleta amend the Design Review Board (DRB) bylaw (Section 3: Amendment of Section 35-256 of Article III) that prohibits structural changes to residential garage openings and usage. Changes should be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. Additionally, changes to residences that were made prior to current owner purchasing of the home should be reviewable by the DRB on a case-by-case basis.
Currently, no change in garage door size is allowed and no subdivision of garage space is allowed. This bylaw is intended to force residents to use their garage space for cars only and to limit the number of vehicles on city streets.
The bylaws violate the rights of residents and their sovereign use of their property. Preventing residents from subdividing their garages and not allowing any change in the width of garage openings has no direct relation to use of that space in all cases. It is an ineffective bylaw that needs to be amended to allow residential sovereignty and a case-by-case review of changes to garage openings and usage if the modifications are found to be excessively impacting on other residents.
By signing this petition you are asking the City of Goleta amend their bylaws regarding modifications to garage openings, number of required spaces and usage to allow for a case-by-case review of changes instead of a blanket restriction.
