To: Caring people everywhereDANGER TO DEMOCRACY IN ISRAEL!
On 29 June 2005, three young teenage girls, P'ninah (16), Haiki (14), and Moriah (13) were arrested near Tel-Aviv at a demonstration for Gush Katif.
ISRAEL'S SUPREME COURT HAS DECIDED TO HOLD THEM WITHOUT BAIL UNTIL THE END OF THEIR COURT PROCEEDINGS, WHICH MAY LAST FOR MANY MONTHS. They have already been sitting in jail for over a month.
The high court ruled that these girls are a threat to Israel's democracy because they dare to demonstrate against the disengagement plan. The court has denied them house arrest because it views their parents unfit because of their political views. Instead, Israeli officials have suggested alternative incarceration such as "foster care and re-education."
Don't remain silent. Raise up your voices and cry out in protest!
Minors being held in prison without bail until the end of proceedings for protesting is outrageous!
We the undersigned call on the Israeli government to release these girls from prison immediately!
Please pray for the immediate release from prison of:
P'ninah bat Sarah and Aaron Ashkanasi
Haiki bat Yocheved and Moshe Belogorodsky
Moriah bat Ya'el and Lenny Goldberg
