In Defense of Goblins |
To: Designers of 4th Edition Dungeons and DragonsWe, the concerned friends of the Goblin race, demand that the designers of Fourth Edition Dungeons and Dragons -- Robert Heinsoo, Mike Mearls, and James Wyatt – commit to fully respecting Goblinhood in all its forms.
Specifically, we demand that the tragic history of prejudice against the Goblin race ends with 4th Edition Dungeons and Dragons; that the Goblin race is not again referred to as being ‘ugly’, ‘pests’, ‘slave-takers’, ‘cowardly’, or ‘evil’; that the backstory for the 4E world incorporates the necessary amount of cultural sensitivity towards the Goblin race; and that the use of innocent Goblin families as ‘cannon fodder’ in low-level adventures cease immediately.
Finally, we appreciate the tremendous burden that these designers have taken upon their shoulders, and, should they follow their consciences and defend Goblinhood in this way, we pledge to defend them against the scurrilous attacks that the daisy-munching elf fanboys will no doubt lodge against them.
Sincerely,
