We, the undersigned, as Alumni of the College of William and Mary, recognize the threat posed by climate change to the wellbeing of our society, the natural environment, and future generations. We understand that immediate action is required to prevent the most drastic effects of global warming including sea level rise, increased weather volatility, and exacerbated economic hardship for the world’s poorest peoples.

As a leader in higher education, we believe that our alma mater has the clear responsibility to lessen its contribution to this crisis by reducing greenhouse gas emissions and promoting sustainability more broadly. We call upon President Gene Nichol to sign the American College and University Presidents Climate Commitment and begin the process of moving William and Mary towards campus sustainability.
